Transport animals to safety
Pet Couriers
Help save lives by transporting rescued animals from foster carers to their new homes. Every journey you make helps an animal find their forever family.
Why should I become a pet courier?
Every day around Australia, hundreds of dogs, cats and other domestic animals are surrendered to animal shelters by their former owners. These animals are taken in by organisations like Homeless Hounds, staying with our volunteer foster carers.
As a Homeless Hounds Pet Courier, you're volunteering to transport these dogs, cats or other animals (and any supplies) from their foster carer to a new home or vice versa.
You're literally the link between an animal's rescue and their forever home. Without pet couriers, many animals wouldn't be able to reach their new families, especially those in regional areas or across state borders.
Give at-risk animals a second chance at life
Homeless Hounds takes animals from pounds and shelters, puppy and kitten farms, crisis situations (domestic violence, natural emergencies, homelessness etc) and other scenarios in which the animal is in danger.
As we are inundated, we prioritise animals who will die without our help.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes – you'll need to have access to a car and car insurance; either Third Party or Comprehensive. This ensures the safety of both you and the animals during transport.
You'll only transport animals you're comfortable with, including dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals. We'll always match you with animals that suit your experience and comfort level.
Ideally, you'll have a cat and/or dog carrier, and a suitable car to be able to transport the animal safely. If you don't have carriers, we can often provide them or help you source appropriate equipment.
Transport distances vary depending on where animals need to go. You can specify your preferred travel radius and we'll match requests accordingly. Some couriers help with local trips, others with longer interstate journeys.
